It's finally here! We've started clay in fifth grade! Track 1 kiddos were able to complete their mini bust sculptures before I track out. Here is a sneak peek: We looked at the American artist Robert Arnerson to inspire this project. He did many funky portraits in clay, like this one! And here is what they came up with. They are very creative! And, taking a peak at the first grader's work, we have been reading Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are and looking at the beautiful artwork to make our own 'wild things' using chalk pastel: Our curious kindergarteners have been learning to work with clay. We read Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and came up with these kooky monsters! The third grade artists have been learning about American painter Wayne Thiebaud and his love for painting items from popular culture, including delicious looking food! Like these two! Some of the Kinders and 1st grade classes have been learning about the swimming pool paintings of David Hockney. We will be using a watercolor resist to make our people look like they are floating in a warm summer pool! Here is one of Hockney's paintings: Track 1 5th grade has done a nice job on finishing up their Robert Arneson miniature sculptures:
